Durable Power of Attorney
Use of a durable power of attorney can be a great estate planning tool. A durable power of attorney provides a third party with the legal authority to act on your behalf regarding a number of areas such as management of your assets, bank accounts, safe deposit boxes and real estate. The authority to act on your behalf can be contingent upon the occurrence of some future event, e.g. your incapacity, or can be immediate. A durable power of attorney should only be granted to someone that is trusted and has your best interests at heart; a durable power of attorney can be limited in scope (the actions authorized) and in duration.
